My name is Lucinda. I currently live in PA. with my husband. We just (in October) moved from CT. When in CT. we at one time had 23 goats, a llama, a dozen ducks- mostly muscovies- my favorites, 40 or so rabbits, about 200 chickens, a cat and a dog. We have downsized considerably and currently have less than 20 chickens, 2 dogs, a cat and 5 goats (dairy) 4 of which are due to kid at the end of March. In the spring or perhaps before I want to get ducks again so anyone in my area with Muscovies???My husband and I have been working towards self sufficiency. The animals are part of that plan. What with cloning and new FDA regulations and all I would like to start raising a steer or 2 for more meat. We also eat our chickens and the culled goats. I know some people say that the clones won't enter the food market but I'm sure most would say that about the $20,000 race horse until it breaks it's leg. I also don't want to serve their progeny on my table either. I don't trust what the gov't says or their USDA clones. On the otherside of things I make all natural goat's milk soaps and other personal care products to help support the household as I no longer work away from home. The children are grown and live in different states than us. It's good to be officially back! I have throroughly enjoyed being a part of this group and am looking forward to several years more membership to it.
