Hello everyone and Happy New Year,

I just received my membership to your group and wanted to both thank

you for including me and introduce myself to you. I have so much I

want to say that it is hard to decide where to begin and what to

include. I'll try to make this short and sweet, but I can't

promise : )

I am a stay at home mom to three children, ages 8, 11, and 17. When

my youngest son was 2, he was diagnosed with Austism Spectrum

Disorder (ASD). For the next 6 years, my husband and I have visited

more doctors and specialists than I care to mention in a hope of

finding out why he is affected and how to best treat and recover

him. (Yes, I am one of those mom's who hasn't given up on the

hope/dream that my son will one day be normal- or as close to it as

possible). We have discovered that my son's actual diagnosis is

heavy metal toxicity caused by mercury poisoning. We have therefore

embarked on many biomedical treatments aimed at resolving this.

However, along the way, we have tried several different diets such

as the gluten/casien free diet, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, and

now the WPA diet. When we were on the GF/CF diet, he could barely

eat any normal foods. Everything seemed " fake " in an attempt to

avoid casien and gluten. Milk was a big NO No. All the while on

that diet, his intestinal yeast got worse (GI disbyosis is a big

problem for children with Mercury Poisoning). It just didn't seem

right for him. The SCD was better for his yeast, but he was always

hungry!

I started reading about Raw Milk and how it may be helpful

for children with ASD. When I inquired about finding a local source

of Raw Milk (I live in Northern Virginia), I was directed to my

local WPA chapter leader. Through him, I got a quick intro to the

WPA and decided to volunteer my house for the local drop site for an

Amish Farm that delivers raw, pastured milk, cream, eggs, meats and

fermented foods as well. He taught me how to make Kefir and I

started giving my son smoothies made from Goat Kefir, banana, and

Coconut Oil. After making this one change, my son's GI yeast and

bacteria issues have all resolved. It was the first time in 6 years

that I got a normal OAT for his intestines! I knew I was on the

right track!

Then, this past November, Wise Traditions had it's

annual conference just 20 minutes from my home. (I felt like

someone or something was making this all come together for me). I

attended the conference and at this point, I'm fairly overwhelmed

with all the info regarding cooking techniques and ingredients. I

am taking it real slow. I'm also finding it hard to implement some

of the changes with my older children. They DO NOT LIKE EATING

LIVER, and they don't care much for fermented foods. They do take

the CLO and drink the raw milk though. This is where I stand now on

my journey. I was wondering if any of you have faced and overcome

similar issues with older children and what you did. I was

wondering if I could get Liver Pills to give them instead of the

real thing, and if that is an acceptable substitute? Also, since

I'm new to your group, I was wondering if anyone else had children

with ASD and if they have noticed any improvements in their children

after implementing this great way of eating? Like I said, there is

so much to tell, but I want to keep it brief for now. I am looking

forward to " meeting " all of you and am so happy that I can learn

with you.

Thanks so much,

Sheryl
