Guest guest
My son was diagnosed at age 3, and yes, you can do CBT/ERP at that early of an age. It is really hard and they have a difficult time grasping it, but I say jump on it with CBT/ERP. Even if it is not OCD, it can help. My nephew starte having clothing issues ( would only wear one pair of pants and one shirt at age 5) and my sister in law was freaked that he had OCD. I gave them a simple ERP exercise to do, which they did for a week and he was " cured " - now wears everything. Clearly not OCD but it still helped. I will say that my youngest son has shown some repetitive behavior around nighttime routines and I have thought in the past " oh , no, here it comes " but the difference is, he does not freak out if you stop him. It is really a learned behavior and he is not emotionally tied to it- but either way, if she is doing OCDish stuff, it can be treated as OCD. Guest guest
Thank You all for your responses and I fully plan on taking your advice and attending my Teen daughters appt. in early May and mentioning my concerns about my 5 year old daughter. I will take her along with me and hopefully the psychologist may be able to ask her some things or do something with her that day!!! Usually you need a referral from your family Dr. to see a child psychologist here but I am hoping that since my older daughter is already her patient, she might be able to start seeing Emma sooner than later. The past couple days she's been upset that she's the only one in our immediate family whose left handed and asking all kinds of questions about why she's the only one who's left handed and saying that she wants to be right handed like the rest of the family!!!! I tell the other kids not to talk about her being the only lefty in the family because it upsets her!! I told her that she is very special to be the only famly member whose left handed and that special people are left handed. I told her that her favorite singer is left handed just like her and she was happy with that (at least for now)!!! Sigh!!!! I'll keep you informed about the appt. and what the psychologist has to say Thanks again!!!! > > My son was diagnosed at age 3, and yes, you can do CBT/ERP at that early of an age.
