Guest guest
Steph, my dd is complicated as well. She is also brilliant. When her mix of issues was at its worse she literally couldn't read. Her bipolar caused her mania to make the ideas and thoughts in her head go so fast she literally couldn't understand them and wasn't able to read, despite reading being something she greatly enjoys when healthy. I don't know if it the same is true for your dd, but my dd's skills returned once we were able to get control of her illnesses. Did your dd have the skills before she became ill? For my dd, it is a night and day difference of what she is able to accomplish when she is healthy or extremely disabled by her illnesses. Obviously, this is a complicated mix of issues, but I was wondering whether any of this sounds familiar to anyone on this list. Do you have children with high academic ability and OCD-related learning problems or literate kids, like my daughter, who " can't " read? Thanks, Steph (Virginia)
Guest guest
Thanks, Stormy. It's impossible to say whether my dd had these skills before she became ill, since she's had OCD since she was 5 (maybe longer) and she was just learning to read. She definitely used to have more joy in learning. :-( -- S. > > Steph, my dd is complicated as well. She is also brilliant. When her mix of > issues was at its worse she literally couldn't read.
