Guest guest
hi. I'm old but I'm new to this group. I have a 13yo son who has been " different " since birth, now he has diagnosis of OCD. He's not on meds, is seeing a social worker who works with OCD, he's known her for years and really likes her. We go once a week when he's in a " flare-up " . My ins does not pay, she's 45min away, I work full-time etc. I just really do not know how to interact with him when he's very anxious. I do not know what his anxieties are, what his rituals are, as he is very secretive and gets VERY angry and frustrated when I ask him about them. I would do anything in the world to help him, but that is the one thing that REALLY BOTHERS him, is when I try to interact in any way concerning his anxiety/rituals etc. We have a deal that I can ask how things are going on a 1-10 scale, ask if there's anything I can do, but not go any farther. He had a " breakdown " about 4 yrs ago where he cried all day for over a week, and a lovely (I'm being sarcastic) psychiatrist sat with him for 30min then said " He's got OCD, he'll have it all his life, if it gets too bad we'll put him on meds. " See ya.... Right now I need support more than specific ideas about treatment. I just need someone to tell me they've cried themselves to sleep every night and it can get better, that I haven't lost my little boy... Oh, by the way-- I have noticed that his breathing is VERY shallow. We work on deep breathing, but as soon as we are through he goes back to really shallow. I've asked him if his OCD makes him breathe like this and he says no. We work on it but it is not changing. Thanks.
