Kefir & Constipation

I scoured Onibasu to see if this had been addressed but didn't see any

indication. I love kefir, but I'm thinking it doesn't love me. In looking

through posts on the kefir list, it would seem there's no One Answer to why

kefir may cause constipation. Some people believe a secondary ferment is to

blame. Others believe it " passes " (so to speak and wouldn't that be nice)

with time, taking time for the body to adjust. Up until kefir, I was like

clockwork. Now...well, I'll spare you the details, but I'm getting darn

grumpy. Others suggest drinking tons of water, upping flax seed intake,

upping CLO, ad nauseum. I'm eating, of late, 2 to 3 times the amount of

sauerkraut I'd normally eat, just hoping that will be a " natural " cure.

Unfortunately, even my 5-yo is asking me across the room, " Mommy, is that

your tummy rumbling? " . I'm having flashbacks to the sound of paintpots in

Yellowstone. *sigh* Help.

Constipation can actually result from healing in the gut. If that's

the case for you, it should probably pass after awhile as long as you

keep drinking kefir -- unless you're also eating foods which cause

damage, thus sticking you in an inbetween position.
