Re: German to English Dipl. - Ing. agr. and Dipl.-Ing. (FH)

1. Two people have the above academic qualifications. The person with

the Dipl. Ing. agr. also has a Doctorate in the same field. I

understand that Diplom level qualifications in Germany are the

equivalent on Master level degrees in English speaking countries. So is

the Dipl.-Ing. agr. a Master of Agricultural Engineering? Also, what

is the Dipl.-Ing. (FH) ? I intend to leave these as they are but I

want to explain them in a footnote.

2. The final examination for Landwirt includes under " Kenntnisprüfung "

the subjects of: 'Fachkunde' and 'Fachrechnen' but I'm not sure how to

translate these.

3. a. 'Pflichtfächer' and b. 'Wahlpflichtfächer' What is the

difference?

4. 'Entscheidungstheorie' Is this just 'Decision making theory'?

#1: " FH " may be the abbreviation of " Fachhochschule " . Dipl. Ing. agr.

is also a diploma of a Fachhochschule, I suppose. Maybe this site

#3: I try an explanation in German:

Pflichtfach ist ein Hauptfach ohne Wahlmöglichkeit; z.B.: ein

Lehrplan beinhaltet 3 Pflichtfächer OHNE Wahlmöglichkeit (Englisch,

Französich, Latein), die alle 3 belegt werden müssen.

Wahlpflichtfach bedeutet, daß man aus einer Anzahl von z.B. 3

Pflichtfächern 2 auswählen kann (im gegensatz zu 3 obligatorischen

Pflichtfächern)

Would " Farming Theory " and " Agricultural Mathematics / Mathematics

for Farmers " sound too pompous to you?

Agricultural Mathematics sound perfectly useable to me.
