S. Terry of Ohio, Herbert L. Terry of Kentucky and Vicky Perdue of Ohio are accused of using Mikayla's Place, an electronics and computer business that resold used equipment at discounted prices, as a front to defraud consumers out of more than $15,000. " These individuals created a sham business to prey on the kindness of strangers, " said Cordray. " They represented that they were conducting a fundraiser and consumers could purchase laptops and other electronics at huge discounts to support a camp for children with autism or special needs. Instead, they pocketed the money and many consumers who purchased equipment never received it and never received refunds. " Cordray's office received 54 complaints from consumers in Ashland, Boyd, Gallia, Lake, Lawrence, Scioto and Summit counties who lost between $50 and $10,000 each, to the fake fundraiser. In the lawsuit, which was filed Thursday in the Lawrence County Court of Common Pleas, the Terrys and Perdue were charged with multiple violations of Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act, including making false and misleading representations and failure to deliver. Cordray has asked the court to issue a permanent injunction and to require the defendants to pay full restitution and civil penalties.
