Guest guest
Target is your best bet on jars, Walmart seems to have everything but what you need. Target has a 2 gallon container that is perfect, true it has no spiket to clog the works (sp) anchor is the name of it...... I plan on getting a couple this weekend to plan my experiments on Kombucha Tea ~~PEACE~~ HippeeSandee http://hippeesandee.com/ HippeeSandee's Endless Mountains Realm sandee@... Re: Kombucha secrets? I'm getting a lot of answers to my questions from this site: http://users.bestweb.net/~om/~kombu/FAQ/indexOrig.shtml#kombucha unveiled This is the section on containers: http://users.bestweb.net/~om/~kombu/FAQ/part01d.html It says Enamel is okay as long as there are no chips in the coating. As for if that's normal, I dunno yet. I just got my scoby and I'm still trying to find a big enough container! I'll be off to walmart today to try to find a sun tea jar or something. -Lana On 1/6/06, Hamilton <mamabear@...> wrote: > Is there a secret trick to getting kombucha to turn out? > > Does the container HAVE to be pyrex like NT says, or would a gallon mason > jar work? what about a large stoneware bowl? > > Is there a certain temperature zone within which it needs to ferment? > > I ask because I tried it and I think I messed it up... > Of course, the only container big enough that I had on hand was the > enameled > bowl, and with heating the house by woodstove, the kitchen tends to be in > the 50-60 degree range. > > It had a thick slimy/gelatinous layer of stuff grown on the top of the > liquid, with stringy tendrils hanging from the bottom of it. > > or is it *supposed* to be that way? > > >

Guest guest
Wow, you were right, it is perfect! The brand is Anchor Hocking Company. It was on sale for $7.00. I'm surprised - the lid is actually all glass, no rubber or anything! Yipee! I tried to find a link to the jar on target's website, but it isn't there. It must be an in-store only deal. Thanks a million!!!! -Lana On 1/6/06, HippeeSandee <sandee@...> wrote: > Target is your best bet on jars, Walmart seems to have everything but what > you need.
