Any thoughts on why this should be called a " Human Strain " probiotic.

is it all a marketing ploy by Con Agra who sells a patented one?

Anybody have other sources of a good rhamnosis? Or any thoughts on

rhamnosis at all.

TIA

Ellen

I found a nice article on Rhamanosus 271. It was isolated from

healthy human mucosa, which would probably explain why it is called a

" Human Strain " . It is a Word Document

Unfortunately, other than the yogurt drink mentioned in the above

article (Fundo), I am quite clueless as to where to get Rhamanosus

(for fermenting purposes). If you find some, would you let me know?

Thanks!

Rhamnosus seems legit. You can buy it individually as a bulk powder

from Custom Probiotics. http://www.customprobiotics.com/ I should

add that while I've always had good experiences with that company,

the owner can be a bit of a PITA, and some people have had trouble

with him. I don't mean to suggest that he's a fraud or anything --

he's completely legit. He can just be... persnickety. But I don't

know of a better place to get bulk probiotics. I wouldn't advise

using his CP1 blend, though, and his yoghurt starter made godawful

yoghurt when I tried it.

This is an old message so I'm including the original below. I searched

on " customprobiotics.com " in the archive and seems to be a fan.

Wondering how that's going, because I'm in the market for a probiotic

for my husband and occaisionally my self and kids. I know next to

nothing in the larger scheme of things. I do the best I can for many

years now at learning about nutrition but some of the people on this

board are far more knowledgeable (or seem). SO, thoughts on purchasing

a probiotic that's good for someone who's not eating any

lacto-fermented foods? How bout economical? Should I make my own

capsules? Can we stir yogurt culture into cold food, and is that less

expensive than capsules?

And, I think relatedly, what is FOS?

How often do you have to eat yogurt or other lacto-fermented foods in

order to not need a probiotic supplement?
