As many as 362 tornadoes struck the affected area during a three-day period from April 25-28 and this included around 312 in just 24 hours. It eclipsed the previous record of 148 tornadoes over two days in 1974. The catastrophe which killed over 350 people in worst-hit Alabama and six other states was the deadliest to strike the region in almost 80 years. The Weather Service report comes as the huge task of removing debris from destruction caused by the tornadoes continued in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Louisiana and Kentucky.
