Yet here in the US they just hired over 50.000 people. I can see why they did this in Europe those since these are low level jobs and it is nearly impossible to fire these workers no matter how bad they are. So it makes sense to try to replace them with machines.

I don't think this would work in the US though. There is one place here that uses touch screens to allow ordering of some items. A lot of people can't handle it.

Mc's restaurants in Europe will soon be swapping the chain's legendary "service with a smile" with "service with a beep." European Mc's restaurants are preparing to replace cashiers with touch screen computers at terminals where customers will be able to order up their hamburgers and fries and pay with credit cards.

People in the US often whine that ATMs are too difficul to work with. I doubt

they would want to order anything from automated MCD's.

and :

I am glad I am not the only one that has seen customers have problems with technology. At the offie where I work, some folks have trouble with debit or the new 'chip' credit cards, and it's not just seniors who sometimes have difficulty following the basic instructions.

The Walmart here used to have one of those self check out areas. I tried using it a few times and the thing never worked correctly. It seemed like over half of the customers needed help from the attendant at one point or another. I used it myself a few times but it failed more often than not. They are gone now anyway, probably because of shoplifting issues.

That's kind of the point, RL, about such entry level jobs. They give young people a little experience in the working world and they build up from there.

Maybe Europeans are smarter than some folks in my city? (sarcasm)

Some 'big box' stores have cashier-less checkouts, and I have seen customers who are having problems with them.
