Guest guest
> so, i'm sooo confused... is a convection oven NOTHING different than a simple toaster oven? angel, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convection_oven " Convection ovens use heated air that is forced into the oven by fans located in the back of the oven, generally for cooking food. By moving heated air past the food, convection ovens operate at a lower temperature than a standard conventional oven and they can cook food more quickly. They are mostly used in industrial and commercial applications, but can be purchased for the home as well. With a convection oven there will be about a 25 to 30% decrease in cooking temperature and a 20% decrease in cooking time as compared to a conventional oven. " B. Guest guest
....just to confirm i understand - so then, all these little ovens touted as " convection " ovens are really JUST toaster ovens since they don't have a serious fan inside? so, a free standing convection oven is then almost always a round thing to allow max air flow/circ? angel, That's not anything like what I meant to say. I thought you were asking for a definition of a convection oven and I posted an official one for you. A convection oven is an oven with a fan. I used to work in bakeries and they are used for commercial bread baking, but I've never used a home version. It seems to me if the mini-oven--no matter the shape--has a fan built in that keeps the hot air moving around the food then it is a convection oven. I suppose they vary in effectiveness. B.
