They managed this so quickly because they have a very efficient spy program and the US has pitiful security. Both cyber and physical security is extremely lax both in government and private sectors and there is always someone willing to sell secrets. I remember a comment back during the Clinton administration where a Chinese official said "Americans were cheap," meaning they were easy to bribe and wanted very small amounts for valuable secrets.

I'm more concerned about the ballistic missile they have put into service. If this thing works as ordered, our carriers can't get within a thousand miles of the Chinese coast without being potentially sunk. This is why we should have refitted at least half of our Ohio class boomers as cruise missile carriers so we could strike land and sea targets from range and with stealth. By the same token, if the leadership had the stones, they could also blockade an enemy coast or destroy port facilities accomplishing the same thing. Our carriers are great big things with very little in the way of defensive armament. Some cruisers have more protection.

If the economy tanks for the Chinese, they will have considerable internal

unrest. Many people have moved to the cities to make money, and if there is not

any money to be made, they will have nothing to do, their old jobs on farms

already taken by still more people.

The one thing that I can see that would solve any problems of unrest would be an

attempt by the Chinese to get into a war with someone to keep their citizenry

distracted. Taiwan would be the likely target.

If we came to their rescue, we might indeed be sunk.
