Guest guest
And I thought Dallas was bad. I went out briefly to put out recycling today, and almost slipped twice. The university has been closed today and tomorrow, and the bus line is out. The only services that appear to be open are campus security, the dining hall with a reduced schedule, and basic maintenance. There is some snow, a ton of ice, and winds at ~12kts gusting to 21 kts, 15°F, with 0°F wind chill. The university seems a little unprepared, but smart about it in that they are rationing sand and salt to the areas that need it most. , if I could figure out a way to attach it to this email, I would send you a mug of hot cocoa. --Zoe
Guest guest
Thanks Zoe, but send gasoline. I'm going to need a truckload to snowblow the driveway tomorrow night after this is all over. BTW, since my last update, the drifts are now about four inches higher. We are getting three inches of snow an hour. And I thought Dallas was bad. Guest guest
Wow. We get gusts like that if a hurricane passes over. Scary stuff. Stay safe out there. People are stuck and buried on Lake Shore Drive and out of gas, and may not be able to be retrieved until tomorrow. Wrigley field damaged. Branches down in the street. 4 foot drifts against a house behind ours. 61 MPH gusts of wind. Only 7 inches of snow so far, and they say we are going to get the full 20-24 inches, plus a few inches of lake effect snow after that. One side of my car is buried to the door handle. Visibility one block or less. Administrator
Guest guest
Its been slick out here too after the snows. I usually put down a layer of cedar shavings to keep the snow and ice from freezing to the brick steps. It is easier after the snows to scrape it off and later sweep the shavings up. When I was in high school there were also heavy snows. They tried to keep walkways open and such, but still there are icy places and patches of black ice. This was a boarding school so we had to keep services up and running. Never missed a day of classes either. And I thought Dallas was bad.
