I don't think there is any epidemic at all. What happening is increased awareness and broadening definitions of autism. Then there is corruption caused by all the money flying out of the government for autism studies and treatment. The studies will be biased toward showing an increase so they can get more grants in the future while treatments are aimed at sucking up as much state and private insurance money as possible before the jig is up.
