The Japanese love to tote how " advanced " their robots like Honda's

Asimo are and how they can do nearly anything a human can...

I know that radiation can quickly degrade electronics that haven't

been hardened but fairly straight forward task and could done quickly.

So why aren't they sending squads Asimos into the reactors instead of

slowly killing the humans they are going into the hot zones...

Because their robots are designed to look pretty but are worthless in

doing anything useful... they can't lift any substantial weight,

have no dexterity, require weeks to program and can't adapt to the unexpected.

Actually, Asimo is very advanced, but the challenge is very

difficult. They are not designed for remote operation, and right now

are at a prototype stage. To see a benefit, Honda will have to

continue for the long haul.

I wonder if it would be possible to hack a diesel-electric

locomotive into a generator, and hook that up to the plant.

That is what the plants had originally as a backup for the cooling system, so

the answer is yes.
