I had the exact same thing - on the left too! I also noticed that my

jaw shifted I guess and my blood test showed a higher white blood c

count, so I think it was an infection. I thought it was mumps too.

The bad news is, is that although there is no swelling (10 mths later!

and it also took a few months for swelling to go down) I still feel

some tension, like my ear is constantly water logged.

Has he been stressed lately?

my dh had 4-5 reoccuring episodes of parotiditis (infection of a

salivary gland) over about 10 years starting in high school. He

finally had it removed, because the last infection could not be

controlled. Talk about massive doses of antibiotics - he was even on

IV antibiotics at home to get the swelling down enough to do the

surgery more safely. In his case the problem was made worse by the

formation of small stones that blocked the salivary ducts and by scar

tissue in the gland from earlier episodes.

He was the worst case scenario. Most people would probably get it once

and never again. However reoccurences are progressively harder to

treat. My husband had a very SAD diet at the time, and I knew nothing

about diet related to health. (It was 15 years ago.)
