And yet politicians refuse to fully fund a sky watch program to find the asteroids that might hit Earth and to fund measures to deflect them. Of course most of the people don't care either so when one hits, it will be as much their fault too. I really think that a really big asteroid could blast a new crater on the near side of the moon or a much smaller one could blast a big crater or even take out a small town, but the people would forget all about it in a couple of weeks and would fight spending money to prevent another strike.

I have found that unless it happens to themselves or someone they know, most

people don't care about anything that happens.

Unfortunately that is my observation, also; It did not happen to 'our people' so we don't have to worry; or 'it is one in a million chance it would happen again,' It seems related to the "Not In My Backyard Syndrome,' where people oppose something like a group home in their neighborhood, in spite of saying 'we should help the disadvantaged' rl 'My cat Rusty is a servant of the Living God....'adapted from a poem by SmartFrom: environmental1st2003 <no_reply >To: FAMSecretSociety Sent: Tuesday, May 10, 2011 10:02:18 AMSubject: Re: Re: Big Asteroid's Approach in November Excites Astronomers
