Guest guest
I'm not sure why these Top Jewish Americans are upset. Obama declared his stance on this issue BEFORE THE ELECTION, and REPEATEDLY but again, I think it's a case of people being angry with the President instead of being angry at themselves for their own ignorance. In other words: To the Top Jewish Americans who voted for Obama, why are you criticizing him when this was the stance he campaigned on??? Isn't this what you voted for??? It's what the rest of Americ wanted??? What did you think you were doing when you voted for Obama, playing Gin Rummy? Really, I think anyone who voted for Obama and is now questioning his administration ought to shut their mouths, because they were told exactly where he stood on the issues in the first place and they are getting exactly what they voted for. Administrator http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/05/21/us-usa-campaign-mideast-idUSTRE74K2PX2\ 0110521 Top Jewish Americans ponder support for Obama By CHICAGO | Sat May 21, 2011 5:51pm EDT CHICAGO (Reuters) - Some prominent Jewish Americans are rethinking their support for President Barack Obama's 2012 re-election bid after he effectively called on Israel to give back territory it has occupied since 1967 to Palestinians. The backlash after Obama's keynote speech on the Middle East has Democratic Party operatives scrambling to mollify the Jewish community as the president prepares to seek a second term in the White House. Obama on Thursday called for any new Palestinian state to respect the borders as they were in 1967, prompting Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to tell him bluntly that his vision of how to achieve Middle East peace was unrealistic. " He has in effect sought to reduce Israel's negotiation power and I condemn him for that, " former New York Mayor Ed Koch told Reuters. Koch said he might not campaign or vote for Obama if Republicans nominate a pro-Israel candidate who offers an alternative to recent austere budgetary measures backed by Republicans in Congress. Koch donated $2,300 to Obama's campaign in 2008, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission. " I believed that then-Senator Obama would be as good as McCain based on his statements at the time and based on his support of Israel. It turns out I was wrong, " he said. Despite the stormy reaction to Obama's remarks, some commentators noted talk of the 1967 borders was nothing new. " This has been the basic idea for at least 12 years. This is what Bill Clinton, Ehud Barak and Yasser Arafat were talking about at Camp , and later, at Taba, " Goldberg wrote on The Atlantic website. " This is what W. Bush was talking about with Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert. So what's the huge deal here? " Exit polls from the 2008 election showed 78 percent of Jewish voters chose Obama over his Republican rival Senator McCain. " I have spoken to a lot of people in the last couple of days -- former supporters -- who are very upset and feel alienated, " billionaire real estate developer and publisher Mortimer Zuckerman said. " He'll get less political support, fewer activists for his campaign, and I am sure that will extend to financial support as well. " Zuckerman backed Obama during his 2008 presidential run and the newspaper he owns, the New York Daily News, endorsed the president. Obama's Chicago-based re-election campaign sought to play down reaction to the shift in the U.S. stance toward Israel. " There's no question that we've reached out to the Jewish donor community, as we have to many other communities that strongly supported the president in 2008, " a campaign spokeswoman said on Friday. " The continued grassroots organizing and fundraising efforts of many prominent leaders in the Jewish community makes it clear this will remain a strong base of support in 2012. " Texas-based real estate developer Kirk Rudy, who is a deputy finance chairman for the Democratic National Committee, said he exchanged phone calls and e-mails with a large network of supporters since the president's speech " trying to take people's pulse " and has not seen a strong backlash. " I have seen very emphatic and robust support -- and financial support -- from the Jewish community, " Rudy said, adding Obama received " significant financial participation from the Jewish community " at two fund-raisers in Austin, before the Middle East speech, that brought in roughly $2 million. Since the speech, Rudy has received e-mails from angry voters but the overwhelming majority of his network will continue to donate and not cross party lines, he said. But Morton Klein, president of the Zionist Organization of America, wrote an open letter to the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, calling on it to cancel a scheduled address by Obama to the lobby group on Sunday. Guest guest
Just want to add that I'm toying with no longer engaging in political discussions anywhere online. In the past on here, and in other venues for sure, I have spoken against certain candidates BEFORE THE ELECTION and got trashed by people who didn't believe what I said, ignored the newspaper articles I posted because " It's too much to read, " and then later on when I say " I told you so, " am told either to shut up, or that I never said what I said in the first place because if I had they would have listened. What relevance does the situation in Israel have to anyone in here, you may ask? Well, to some Jewish members, it might matter. Why, I don't know. You don't see me, a Christian, get in a tizzy about anything that goes on in the only Christian nation in the world, i.e., the Vatican. Nevertheless, the other reason why it matters is because if you are a member of this forum who lives in the US, your tax dollars -in this time of recession when people are losing jobs and homes, and are about to be even more heavily taxed to support healthcare- are GIVING MONEY TO ISRAEL which is quite capable of managing on its own without our help. But if they get attacked, you will either be taxed or maybe you or someone you know will wind up being drafted to go defend that country, and if you are of age for service, it doesn't matter whether you are autistic or not, if you are drafted, you are drafted. They only kick you out if you can't past the physical or the mental exams. But anyway, who cares anyway? No one cared BEFORE they voted for Obama, so why should they care AFTER they voted for Obama. Guest guest
I understand what you mean about talking about politics and current events. Most people have no grasp of history, current events, or the nature of national leaders, to understand what is going on in the world. Most people seem to think that political leaders are just like them. In some cases I'm sure this is true, particularly the more power crazed and sociopathic, hateful people out there. Everyone else assumes leaders are honest, will keep their word and harbor no ill will in their hearts toward anyone else. That's why I find what is currently going on regarding Israel to be very much like what Czechoslovakia faced when leading up to Munich. The Czechs were being targeted by Hitler because he wanted the land and industry. He used the progressive's own tricks against them, that being the right of self-determination of racial minorities to decide their own fate found in the League of Nations charter. Hitler slowly ramped up the diplomatic pressure and once he realized England and France didn't care about their treaties to protect other nations, particularly ones so far away that they know so little about (said one of the British PM's at the time), he took a little bit, then all of the country. He took a little because international bodies gave it to him without the consent of the Czech people, then took the rest because he could. The pressure he applied was in the form or riots caused by puppet organizations in the Sudetenland, staged attacks against Germans there, including attacks against political figures, and lots of made up stories about even more severe violence. Hitler also threatened war, subtly at first but more openly later as the great powers showed their weakness. What's happening with Israel now is that the Palestinians are pushing for the destruction of Israel. They've been pushing for years and in spite of their many acts of terrorism and the fact that they are still arming and gathering allies for the fight, they are not asked to make any concessions, only Israel. Israel has given up lots of land but gotten no peace in return. Now they are being asked to be put in a VERY vulnerable position, much like Czechoslovakia once it had its border defenses and naturally defensible terrain stolen by other nations signing bits of paper. At its narrowest, Israel will be only 9 miles wide, putting cities and airports in easy rocket range. What's happening is that international pressure has always favored the Palestinians but now it is getting worse because the US has turned on Israel. The Europeans hated Israel for many reasons, but mostly they probably sided with the Muslims nations because they didn't want anymore war and they needed Muslim oil more than the US does and they have such large, unassimilated Muslim populations in their country. The US has pushed Israel in the past because it knew it couldn't get concessions from the Palestinians, particularly getting them to drop their goal of wiping out Israel and all the Jews. So they pushed Israel to give up land and such so the President could add a plank to their legacy. Obama has turned sharply against Israel. He has to know Israel won't accept his terms and they shouldn't. However, the Palestinians are going to push for statehood probably this September. Obama is trying to force that to happen so he can build a legacy, and that's being charitable about his motives. This again is like what happened to the Czechs. Hitler and his puppets in the country kept making outrageous demands they knew would never be accepted. They used this refusal as reason to increase the rioting and violence and make even more outlandish demands. Other nations steadily backed Hitler, for the sake of peace, until the Czechs lost their country. If troops are sent to the region today, I don't think they will be there to back Israel. On the contrary, they will be against Israel. Listen to some interviews with Powers. She is one of the one calling the shots about Israel and she hates the country. She has already called for an international force to force the division of land and to protect the Palestinians from the Israelis. She's got that completely 180 degrees wrong. I'm sure foreign troops will be in the area and that they will NOT interfere against Muslim attacks against Israel. However, if Israel tries to defend itself, Israel will be attacked by a coalition of nations including the US. In a message dated 5/21/2011 7:13:14 P.M.
