The public unions have to be curbed. They aren't the same as private sector unions, which are bad enough, but their money comes from taxpayers. With private unions you can buy their products and services or not. Public sector unions you don't have that choice because if you don't pay taxes you go to jail and have your property stolen by the state. Its not just states that are facing hard times but a growing number of cities as well, so expect this issue to spread and get worse. Cities and states will be going bankrupt in the next year or two as they can no longer keep feeding the unions.

Just keep this in mind as all this plays out: the Federal Government spends 62% of the budget on salaries, benefits, pensions and wealth redistribution programs (welfare, Social security, Medicare, etc.). The Congressional Republicans want to go through and consolidate many of the welfare programs and have been finding shocking waste. I've said before the government doesn't even know how many welfare programs are out there. Well, they've been finding 80 different programs for a single thing like help with home heating. Its just as bad or worse with other programs. That's a lot of bureaucrats that can be trimmed from the workforce if those 80 are made 1.

Also, some of the Wisconsin Republicans are getting death threats. Given the history of union violence, don't be surprised if someone does get attacked or killed by the unionists, houses burn or the like. It will be interesting to see how the media, the elite and the Democrats react.
