Guest guest
On the other hand there are a number of articles out there about how Assad's family has protected Christians from Muslim radicals. Christians make up about 10% of Syria's population and some have fled to Syria from Iraq, where Saddaam had protected them but the US and the new Iraq government refused to. There is a fear that if Assad goes, then more attacks will happen like a few decades ago under his father. Back then Muslim radicals probably associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, tried to wipe out the Christians in Syria. They started at one town who's name I forget, but troops and artillery were sent in and the attacks were brutally stopped. Since then a more secular government has been maintained which protected the Christians. If Assad goes, they expect an Islamic government to take his place and that they will be in trouble, just like the Coptic Christians in Egypt are under increasing attack, though you hear nothing about that in the Western Media. I also doubt if the current US government will offer them refuge either. In a message dated 4/28/2011 2:49:41 A.M.
