That doesn't speak to its healthiness, but to its efficacy... it acidifies the surface of the meat/fish to discourage bad bacteria. My thought is, smoked fish is so unbearably good, and probably such an infrequent treat, why not just monitor yourself and enjoy sparingly? Hallucinogens: I plan to spend my 70's high as a kite. Everything I didn't do for health reasons before childbearing or 'sponsatility reasons while raising children, I plan to give a try. All the nasty poisonous alkaloids that take you where you're not supposed to go. Plenty of pot, too, hopefully. All while comporting myself like Miss Marple in the day-to-day. If my husband's still alive, I expect we'll get a little country hideaway and run around high and nekkid and covered with mud. A friend says that if he ever has a painful terminal disease, it's overnight heroin junkie for him, and that sounds good, too. So, really, I need to know what the bugs are. Post a picture.
