Guest guest
Wow, entering can of proverbial worms! >I'm surprised to see you compare astrology with Christ. >I think you're reading a bit too much into a very small comment. I >said I think astrology and Christianity are both crap. That's >somewhat different. I realize you intended your comment as a small aside to a larger point, but you must acknowledge " Christianity is crap " in any context- them's fightin' words! Truly,I felt the need to speak up to address that very mentality being present on an intellectual forum such as this one- specifically that Christianity requires faith free from reason and anyone who subscribes to it must have checked their rational thought at the door. At the very least I hope to encourage respect for a Christian's belief in Christ as a deity, recognized as a reasonable conclusion drawn from a large body of evidence, historical and otherwise. Not to engage in apologetics 101, but just for example: * First and foremost, logic dictates that everything created has a cause. Going back to the big bang, we must assume an antecedent cause for the universe, one that had to be supernatural- superceding space and time- namely, God. If one accepts this premise, it would also stand to reason that our God had a purpose for his creation and a desire to reveal himself to his creation- namely and uniquely, via the Bible. No other religious work satisfies this. Going further, one may also accept that God chose to interact with the world through Jesus as documented in the Gospels. Some have even said that the Gospel story is so *unbelievable* that it could not have been generated by man. And that if man wanted to establish a new religion, he would have come up with something much more reasonable! * Also, the reliable and consistent testimony of the disciples in the New Testament as well as the disciples' martyrdom- it has never been documented that anyone has ever knowingly died for a lie. Jesus nor the disciples had anything to gain and everything to lose by proclaiming the Gospel. Now I'm not looking to argue these points (though others are welcome to , but rather to share a small part of the belief system behind the Christian faith to demonstrate that while you may not agree, you needn't consider it " crap " and, of course, I am also called to share my faith and the Gospel with others in hopes that they will welcome God's Grace into their own lives. >No, but I subscribe to the scientific method, I believe in the >utility of Occam's Razor, and I require some kind of real evidence >for claims. " Because I said so " , " Because someone else said so " , >and > " Because God told me so " don't qualify in my book. - Not everything in life can be proven or disproven using the scientific method. I have found the body of evidence for Christianity compelling, while acknowledging scientific evidence cannot by definition explain the supernatural. Also consider, God says he will reveal himself to those who earnestly seek him. Finally, I feel I must tie this in some way to the purpose of this group. I have found that in my journey to health by way of nutrition, it has become more than just about how one should ideally eat. I feel an element of God's truth about how he intended us to be nourished is found in the work of WAP. It took a long time to weed through all the junk and only after arriving at Price's traditional wisdom, which immediately rang true to me, did I even fully realize the other stuff was junk. There's a metaphor for my faith journey here somehow but it's getting too late to discern! Sincerely,
