Reporters wrote about the favourite stories they worked on and the editors selected from the top stories of the year. We will run these lists throughout the week starting with Bower <snip> 4. LEWIS SCHOFIELD It can make you question God when a child is faced with a lifethreatening illness. But it boggles the mind that Schofield, a borough boy, has to face so many health struggles in his young life. And through it all, he remains upbeat and tries to use the experiences to educate others about his health concerns. I first met when he was diagnosed with autism. Years later I learned he had a rare and lifethreatening form of muscular dystrophy that causes him to collapse and makes it difficult at times to breathe. In 2010, his mother called to tell me was undergoing surgery for a rare congenital kidney defect causing pain and severe vomiting. , however, is the personification of optimism. A computer whiz, he creates videos and posts them to YouTube to educate others about his diseases. He was awarded the prestigious Trent Community Leadership Award for these kinds of endeavours.
