Guest guest
That's always been a design flaw of nuclear reactors. As much power as they generate, they can't run their own back up systems. They do have diesel generators, but at least at the Fukushima plant it seems to have failed. They are using a secondary system which doesn't seem to be having much effect. For decades there has been concern about building the nuclear plants right on the beach like Japan did. Granted they need access to a lot of water, but it was a major risk. Hopefully they will get this thing under control or it will doom nuclear power in the US just when we need to be pursuing it most. Then again, I think there are a couple of plants in California that are in quake prone areas as well. In a message dated 3/11/2011 7:10:30 P.M.
