Well, raw cows milk is better than paturized from the store... Rice and Almond milk (homemade) are better yet. I hardly drink any.. but when I do I love rice milk with some vanilla. In the message archives you will find recipes for both.

hey,

i am writing because i am torn on whether or not to drink milk??

we have a cow share and are getting raw milk, but then i read articles like this one that susan sent, and i rethink my decision to buy the cow share.

Oh my Mamas! Check this out!http://www.milksucks.com/pus.html

however, i clicked on another link, living dairy free and they sent me to a page that discussed alternatives such as rice milk, amazake, and soy milk (i don't think those are much better than the cow's milk unless you are making them yourself)

anyway--what does everyone think here??

hey sara,

you can take 1 cup almonds, 4 cups pure water, a date or two, vanilla extract and blend it up in the blender. afterwards you will need som e cheesecloth or some kind of strainer to strain th e milk. it is good.

Sorry if I'm a moron, but I couldn't find any almond milk recipe in either the archives or the files, and I'd really like to know how to make it. (I have a small daughter who *loves* milk, and I'm not at all comfortable any more giving her the storebought--and raw is super hard to come by here!) Would you mind posting it again? I see a lot of questions on it, so maybe it should be in the files--just a thought. Thanks! -STSuzanne wrote:> Well, raw cows milk is better than paturized from the store... Hi , I didn't see any response to your question, so I'll have a stab at it from my own POV. There are some very anti-milk sites on the web, enough to put the fear of God into people but, if you read some of the stories from the other camp, milk is not so bad and, according to them, illness from raw milk is exaggerated. People have been drinking raw milk for centuries, and somehow they have managed to survive - especially people like the ancient caucasians who were very long-lived. I was on a goat list, where people admitted giving raw goat milk to their young babies, and that they thrived on it. Of course these days, governments dissaude people from drinking raw milk, and some will even fine farmers who sell it for human consumption..... From what I understand Raw milk from a clean source is a very healthy drink, and I would go for it. That said, I use kefir in ALL my milk as I believe that it can take care of any "bad" bacteria. I gave up drinking milk and butter a while ago, and found that my skin was extremely dry and flakey. When I went back to drinking milk and eating butter, my skin really improved. Just my 02 cents (Canadian) - not worth very much! {LOL} and the K9's i am writing because i am torn on whether or not to drink milk??we have a cow share and are getting raw milk, but then i read articles like this one that susan sent, and i rethink my decision to buy the cow share.
