Guest guest
Again history is repeating itself. A stronger nation wants something claimed by a weaker nation and so is using force. The weaker nation tries using diplomacy and international law to protect its claims, but nothing will come of it. Why? Because no one will be willing to use force to back up the Philippines' claim to the islands. Nations can yammer all they want at the UN or elsewhere, but as has happened countless times in history, if no one is willing to fight the more aggressive nation, then it will take what it wants. Diplomacy is only useful between nations that are willing to talk and use talk to solve their problems. If a nation is willing to use force and others aren't, then it will do so. I think the US might protest if there was a war over this region and the Philippines and maybe Vietnam took a beating, but it wouldn't amount to much. China holds too much of our debt and too much of our manufacturing. I don't think the politicians would be willing to face public anger over shelves empty of Chinese junk to stand up for old allies. President Benigno Aquino III has said his government was preparing to bring its protests before the United Nations.Del rio, in a statement published Tuesday in the Philippine Star newspaper, urged the nations locked in the dispute over the potentially oil-rich region to adhere to international laws to prevent armed confrontations and foster conflict-resolution. " The government doesn't care about seeing that the debt is paid back, and a war would force factories to be built in the US, thereby renewing industrialization. But the US could care less about Vietnam or the Philippines, and so they will not do much but protest. China could care less about the little scraps of land they are arguing over. They are just testing the resolve of the international community, ind of like what Hitler was doing with the Sudenten territories.
