Not a bad idea. Same with all the other transport they use. After all, Obama is a millionaire now, the way they lambaste the rich with their rhetoric, they can afford to chip in for their rides, food and all the rest.

All this is actually fairly recent. Time was when big state dinners and all that were rare and often paid for by the President. Its only been since Teddy Roosevelt and that the Imperial Presidency began. It picked up from there, of course, until these days it is very much like the king's courts of old.

Air Force One gets about 8 gallons to the mile, if memory serves,

and the VC-25's fly in pairs on official missions. Their fuel

numbers are made worse by the fact that they land heavy with enough

fuel for an emergency takeoff.
