Tiny amount of radiation from Japan found in Colorado

5:12 PM, Mar 23, 2011

DENVER - For the first time since the disaster in Japan, a trace of radiation

from the Fukushima plant has been found in Colorado.

A tiny amount of radiation from the Fukushima Plant in Japan has been found in

Colorado. The amount is almost infinitesimal.

State health leaders say there is no risk to anyone.

A radiation monitor in the Denver-area, one of three in the state, has detected

miniscule levels of a radioactive isotope. The monitor has never detected that

particular isotope in the several years it has been up and running. That is how

they know the radiation is linked to Japan.

" The miniscule amounts measured are approximately 100,000 times less exposure

than they would get through typical background radiation in rocks, sunlight,

things like that, so there really is no risk to the public, " Mark Salley with

Colorado Department of Public Health said.
