I'm translating a report from a Swiss hospital, and I wonder if anyone

can tell me the equivalents of the following positions (preferably in

British English, but AmE or Italian would do):

Chef de service (consultant?)

Chef de clinique (same as chef de service?)

Médecin adjoint (senior registrar?)

Médecin associé (junior registrar?)

Médecin assistant

Médecin cadre (salaried hospital doctor?)

PD & MER (I assume this is a doctor's qualification, but I haven't

found it anywhere).

In the same text, about a stroke victim suffering from global aphasia,

there are three phrases I'm not sure of (problems between asterisks):

Does this mean " because they were affected by/involved in the global

aphasia " ?

gauche... "

I assume " phakectomy " means " lentectomy " ; does " status post

phakectomie droite " mean the patient had previously had a lentectomy,

or that his condition mimicked a lentectomy of the right eye?

Does " à x heures d'évolution " mean " x hours after the onset of

symptoms " ?

All help gratefully received,
