Syria Trouble Spreads to Lebanon

Lebanon soldiers have clashed with groups of Syrian protesters in the northern

town of Tripoli. Some deaths were reported this morning, Agence France Presse

reported.

Twenty-five people were wounded.

An Army statement published by the Daily Star of Lebanon said: " The army command

warns that it will respond with firmness and strength to the sources of fire

from any side and will not show leniency with anyone carrying arms or

jeopardizing the lives of people, " the army said a statement.

About 600 demonstrators gathered tonight to protest against Syrian President

Bashar al-AssadBashar al-Assad, an Alawite. Sunnis who want Bashar overthrown

began fighting with Alawites.

Lebanon Prime Minister Najib Mikati sent the soldiers to stop the fighting.

There have been numerous battles between the two groups.

The dead included a 14-year-old boy, a Lebanese soldier and an official of the

Alawite part.
