That's not impossible. The US and its allies are weak and leaders across the West are busy squabbling for power while the nations are in terrible trouble. Some nations have leaders who are utterly opposed to the traditions of their countries and are indeed trying to unmake those countries. The terrorists could very well take advantage of this weakness and pressure from the pacifists and willful deniers, like many in our government, and won't face the problem until it is too late.
