Mexican army says it finds country's biggest marijuana plantation ever, almost

300 acres

MEXICO CITY - The Mexican army says it has found the largest marijuana

plantation ever detected in Mexico.

The army says the marijuana fields covers almost 300 acres (120 hectares) in

Baja California state.

The plantation is four times as large as the marijuana fields found at a ranch

in northern Chihuahua state in 1984.

More recently, authorities found a 153-acre (62-hectare) plantation in southern

Oaxaca state.

Soldiers destroy such fields by cutting down and burning the plants.

The Defence Department said Thursday that the huge field was found by soldiers

during a patrol on Tuesday. The department did not specify where the fields were

found, but said journalists would be taken to view it.
