Guest guest
True, the research was only looking at a type of immune reaction triggered by food. There is alot of research that discuss different types of immune reactions in the gastrointestinal tract. My understanding is that there really are no completely accurate tests for foods. That's why Dr. G. uses them more as an indication of how activated the immune system is. The grains and dairy seem to be the major food related immune triggers. It's become pretty well established in the research community that there's bidirectional communication between the brain and the immune system. As far as opioids, there is alot I can find on how this is part of the neuroimmune system. From what I understand, the autism opioid connection was based on the theory that opioids could change brain function/behavior. They also theorized that the peptides found in the urine were similar in structure and could somehow be traveling to the brain. Another thing they mention finding in their urine is IAG. I hope that’s the right letters. Anyhow, I remember finding a pretty old abstract that found that in the urine. It had to do with photoreactivity. I believe there was mention of elevations in disorders like Lupus. There is some research on other disorders that found problems with grains and dairy. These are all related to immune reactions with no mention of opioids. I remember posting an article about grains and diabetes. When they removed gluten from the diet it helped the symptoms, not the ongoing disease process. I also have a collection of research that involves butyrophilin. (I haven't posted yet) A recent study found children with autism had antibodies against this milk protein. There are also studies that found these antibodies in disorders like Multiple Sclerosis, AIDS, etc. I have a few things connected to this that I'll send to the list separately.
