It is my observation as well. I've talked about the danger of an asteroid impact and people just kind of snicker. Never mind that one probably killed off the dinosaurs and that many others have struck the Earth and left craters more than 100 miles wide. Kind of silly that another Tunguska type blast could happen and wipe out major cities. Its even frustrating to talk to people about the loss of farmland to development. They don't seem to care that their food has to come from somewhere and that isn't the back of the store.

I know that people can't be concerned about everything that's out there but there are some serious issues that can and eventually really will bite us so we should be looking at solving them in a reasonable manner before these events happen. After all, drought and famine have probably destroyed as many peoples as war, maybe more.

Unfortunately that is my observation, also; It did not happen to 'our people' so we don't have to worry; or 'it is one in a million chance it would happen again,'

It seems related to the "Not In My Backyard Syndrome,' where people oppose something like a group home in their neighborhood, in spite of saying 'we should help the disadvantaged'
