Guest guest
I just filled up yesterday and the middle-grade fuel was about $3.30 per gallon. Not sure what the premium blend was. Two of the main reasons gas costs what it does in the US are taxes and regulations. There are several kinds of taxes on it that you don't see itemized when you buy gas. These are federal taxes, sales taxes, etc. This wouldn't be bad because some of those taxes are supposed to be for road upkeep, but in reality they just go into the general fund and the politicians spend it however they want. Different blends come into play because different states and even different cities have regulations on the formulation of gas. This means companies have to make not just regular, mid and premium fuels but scores of variations, some of which can't be shipped from one place to another to meet changes in demand.
