Guest guest
" I wonder how long before this spreads to other nations. This should affect Europe first since, if I remember correctly, the oil from Lybia goes to Europe. " It will spread all over. But there are plenty of sources outside the Middle East which are demonstrating underutilized production who stand to make a lot of cash if they can get production moving. Certain former Soviet countries have plenty of oil wells, but they are not pumping due to broken machinery, for example. I am sure the world's governments would subsidize refitting those wells if it came to that. Unfortunately, that kind of solution will take a while to implement. I suspect we will see high oil prices for the near future, and record oil prices this summer if Iran starts something with Israel and the rest of the Middle Eastern countries join in. The main thing to worry about is more countries than those in the Middle East overthrowing their governments. There are of course many African countries in turmoil and many South American ones in turoil, as well as former Soviet bloc countries. You had made a comment in one of your posts that you wondered who might be behind all of this. I am surprised as usual that no one seemed to care about that comment because it is quite important. It is very doubtful that some people who make $2.00 a day or less are sitting around in their hovels, which don't have power, or radios, or TVs, and thinking to themselves that suddenly it would be a great idea to overthrow governments which have been in power for decades. More likely there are people behind the scenes pulling strings, and the more destabilization which takes place, the better it is for them to be able to implement their plans. IF there is a conspiracy afoot, then I doubt there would be a recovery from the outcome because the outcome will be something constantly changing and unpredictable, rather than just a series of coups. Guest guest
" I'm pretty sure there is a conspiracy behind it. I mentioned on here not long ago about the US State Department hosting a meeting of " dissidents " who were plotting to overthrow many nations. They were given pointers and advice then went home to prepare. " No matter who is behind the conspiracy, there is one thing that the conspirators have failed to take into account, and that is the many ways in which people can communicate with one another despite attempts to jam communications channels. They fail to grasp that people will broadcast on ham radios whether or not they have a license to operate one, or will use a network of walkie talkies, or even pony express. Sheer density of major population centers makes mass word-of-mouth communication possible. Conspirators can attempt to overthrow governments, but there is no guarantee that whomever takes power will be the intended replacements, or that they will stay in power once they attain it. Right now, the Libyan military is bombing its own citizens with jet fighters and helicopter gunships, which destroys the possibility of the current military taking control if Ghadaffi is ousted. But more to the point, whomever comes after will never be trusted either because the citizenry won't trust even an entirely new military. I doubt that the conspirators envisioned this scenario when they conspired to oust Ghadaffi. Ghadaffi is crazy and cruel, but he's actually " smart " in that he makes it very hard for successors from anywhere to be trusted.
