6.2-magnitude quake rocks Philippines

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has struck off Negros Island in the Philippines,

according to the US Geological survey.

The quake, which struck at 8.47am today (NZ time), had its epicentre 126

kilometres west-northwest of the city of Dumaguete on Negros Island and 576km

south-southeast of Manila, the Philippine capital, at a depth of 19km.

The quake was followed by a 5.1-magnitude aftershock 16 minutes later.

No Tsunami warning was issued following the quake and there were no immediate

reports of casualties or damage.
