Obama's speech was a whole lot of nothing. Well, not nothing exactly. It was weak on policy but very strong on rewriting history. He misquoted Lincoln, praised post-Civil War programs that were in fact riddled with waste and corruption, tried to blame the national debt on Reagan when the root cause of the debt was President 's Great Society welfare state and FDR's social security and medicare.

It was just another step of the rewriting of American history that is going on right now. First students haven't been taught it for 20 years or more, now they are being told lies and they won't know the difference. Obama's people are doing it from the White House but allied TV producers are making shows that put a socialist cast on American history. Just an example of what is coming from the White House. They are trying to sell the idea that the US has been socialist since the beginning, that government has always been their guiding everything and is responsible for all that is good in the country. Actually no. Railroads were mostly built by private money and even after the government got into the game, all the profitable ones were still those built privately. Most of inventions created in the country were not funded by government, but made by private citizens. The cars, planes, cotton gin and countless other things were developed by citizens, not bureaucrats. Most people didn't want government help. Soup lines and such were felt to be disgraceful and even when the Great Society began, the welfare system nearly failed because so few people wanted to go on the dole. That doesn't sound like Obama's narrative of people always looking to government to help them and guide them.

Its just really frustrating to see it happening and to know that many people, especially the younger ones, will buy into it because they don't know any better and aren't inclined to study for themselves.
