Former Special Ed Teacher Pleads No Contest in Abuse Case

A former special-education teacher at Chamberlain School accused of abusing

autistic students in 2008 pleaded no contest Tuesday to three counts of risk of

injury to a minor.

was sentenced to three years suspended.

taught a class of 10 autistic children at Chamberlain School in New

Britain. An arrest warrant for says she held a student over a sink and

threw water into his face as a punishment for spitting.

She was also seen slamming a student to the ground, slapping another on the back

and crossing another student's arms over his throat so that he gasped for air,

the warrant says.

The victims' parents became aware of the abuse allegations from the Department

of Children and Families, which had opened an investigation. The parents called

New Britain police.

was arrested in October of 2008.
