Guest guest
Oh, how I WISH he'd eat hummos! He used to like it when he was little. I love Trader Joe's Tomato and Basil Hummos. hates all dips and sauces. Except for ketchup, which as you all know, is it's own food group. > > Donna, > > You've probably already heard this, but there's hummus (we get it from > Sam's)... the plain is good... my kids dip carrots and beans (yes, green > beans... strange but true) in it. > > Caroline > > > > From: princesspeach <donnaaron@...> > > Reply-< > > > Date: Thu, 01 Jun 2006 05:36:54 +0000 > > < > > > Subject: Re: food ideas > > > > Hi all -- > > > > Love reading everyone's food ideas...I need some ideas for HIGH > > PROTEIN snacks, main dishes, and side dishes. Guest guest
Yes, he loves it. I love it!! Dr. G had us eliminate cinnamon, so that's out...I wonder if any creative cook-types on this list could come up with a variation on this recipe, maybe with white beans, to make a " savory " bread-type thing instead of a sweet cake??? Any takers??? > > > > > > Hi , > > > The snacks we like are Tings, Wyle pretzels, Utz potato chips, > fruits, > > > carrots and ranch dressing (coconut milk, canola mayo, lemon > juice and > > > spices). Guest guest
Baby food! Great! And I bet I could use baby food to add veggies, too...I once tried to serve potato pancakes with tiny chopped-up veggies in them...you can imagine the reception they got. This would be much less detectible. Guest guest
Just a thought....a restaurant here (Bravo Italian restaurant....don't know if its a chain) makes a bread with potatoes called mashed potato bread. Then use it to dunk in olive oil/ground pepper like at Macaroni Grill. These types of breads are italian spiced....basil/oregano. I bet this " cake " could be spiced italian sytle...I would love it but not sure my picky eater would. But he loves garlic/butter bread sticks so maybe along a garlic bread would work. I will let you know what I come up with! > > > > > > > > Hi , > > > > The snacks we like are Tings, Wyle pretzels, Utz potato chips, > > fruits, > > > > carrots and ranch dressing (coconut milk, canola mayo, lemon > > juice and > > > > spices). I know nuts can be highly allergenic for many people. He did ask that they be eliminated from my son's diet when we were trying to track down things causing high EOS counts. We've recently added them back in because of weight gain problems with my son that were getting worse on the more restricted diet. We haven't seen an increase in EOS or IgE with almonds or cashews but don't plan to add back peanuts for awhile since we did see a clear EOS drop when we took them out a few years ago. Guest guest
I'm gonna be doing a lot of grinding. Or eating. I tried roasting some garbanzo beans yesterday, using Good Seasons Garlic & Herb dressing mix instead of the Ranch Dressing in the recipe. tasted one and spit it out. I thought they were delicious. > > Don't throw away 'failed' recipes like bread or muffins. > Cut them up and 'toast' them in the oven. > Then grind the heck of them. Guest guest
, Have you tried " Rotisserie Chicken " seasoning by McCormicks? It's great for seasoning chicken, but you can also use it for other foods. I made baked " rottisserie potatoes " one time and everyone loved them. It's hard to find in the stores, but you can order it online or by phone (1-800-322-spice), or www.mccormick.com Ingredients: Salt, onion, paprika, garlic, citric acid, silicon dioxide and spices- I called them to ask what spices and they would not tell me, but they did assured me that it did not contain, gluten or dairy. Argie PS I also have a good banana bread recepi that can be converted to zucchini, let me know if you're interested and I'll post it. Guest guest
Hi and any interested list mates, Here's the banana bread recipe. I haven't done pumpkin, but it's worth a try. 1/2 cup of sugar or splenda 1/3 cup margarine - softened (I use canola margarine, but any brand can be used). 2 eggs 2 cups mashed ripe bananas (4-5 medium - you can microwave the bananas to soften them). 1/3 cup of water 1 2/3 cup of flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1/8 tsp. of salt 1/4 tsp. baking powder 1 cup of raisins or 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) Heat oven 350, grease bottom of loaf pan (pamm works). Mix sugar & margarine, stir in eggs until blended. Add bananas & water and beat for about 30 seconds. Stir in remaining ingredients except raisins or nuts until just moistened. Stir in raisins or nuts then pour into pan. Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes our clean, 8 inch loaf = 1 1/4 hrs, 9 inch= 55-60 minutes. Enjoy! Guest guest
I just found this PUMPKIN Bread recipe: 3 - cups sugar (way too much use splenda or less) 1 cup vegetable oil 4 eggs, lightly beaten 16 ounces canned unsweetened pumpkin 3 1/2 cups flour 2 teaspoons salt 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1 teaspoon allspice 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon cloves 2/3 cup water Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter and flour two 6/5 loaf pans. Stir together sugar & oil. Stir in eggs and pumpkin. Combine dry ingredients in separate bowl. Blend dry ingredients and water into wet mixture, alternating. Divide batter between two loaf pans. Bake for 60 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean. Let stand 10 minutes. Remove from pans and cool. The kids in my son's first grade class baked this bread with their teacher and they all loved it. You can always experiment by substituting flour for rice flour, etc. Does not hurt to experiment. I have not tried this recipe at home, but will soon Looking for new food ideas > > > > > > > >I need some new food ideas. > > > >What are some of your kids favorites that are basically > > > >no dairy > > > >no goats milk > > > >no soy > > > >no wheat > > > >no nuts > > > >not red > > > > > > > >Does that about eliminate everything? > > > >I am mainly looking for some new snack food ideas. Guest guest
Regarding using Splenda in baking -- IMO, Splenda loses a lot of it's sweetness when you bake with it, in spite of claims to the contrary. I find that mixing Splenda with some sugar (e.g., 2 parts Splenda to 1 part sugar) preserves more sweetness while still cutting way down on sugar. Guest guest
the best thing I've found so far in terms of heavy fat to protein ratio and really good flavor is shortribs. I followed this recipe: cut the short ribs between the bones - boil water enough to liberally cover the meat - add ribs and one carrot (not on candida diet) and several stalks of celery with the leafy tops. Boil for 2.5 - 3 hours. Cool. Refrigerate overnight - skim fat and collect in a frying pan - remove the ribs and brown in the lard (about 7-10 minutes) . Meanwhile take a masher and mash up the broth and celery and carrot (1). Pour this back into the frying pan with mean (I left all the fat because its delicious). Simmer this way for a little while. The meat will fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. the recipe I took this from (which I can't find) called to add cornstarch to thicken the gravy - but we don't need any of that and I doubt we could have it anyways! =) best of luck with the recipe. another thing I cook is chicken with curry and vidalian onions with lots of butter. Goes with any vegetable including fresh salad.
