I don't think the games caused this. If he liked violent games its because his personality and possible conditions made such games attractive to him. Any affect they had was probably limited to the kind of addiction that can occur in some people. This happens because the brain releases the same pleasure chemicals and reward responses to playing a game, any game, as it does in real world situations including drug use. To put all the blame on the games is simply a cop out. They may have contributed as described above, but so could an addiction to sports games or social type games.
