Guest guest
I've read several fairly modern accounts of the Israeli military. It isn't what it was back in the day. Israel still used the draft and males have to serve for up to three years. Not a problem back in the day when there was still a strong national spirit. Today, however, there are a lot of yobs and other trash. They will try everything they can to get out of military service. If they can't, they are often dumped into the infantry or security forces or transportation. If they had contacts in the aircraft maintenance units, they easily could have loaded up some engines and taken them away. In a message dated 6/14/2011 10:38:35 A.M. Guest guest
Is there a chance that espionage may be involved? The F-15's F110 powerplant is supposed to be a good engine, and the F-14A's Iran has from before the revolution would likely have received that engine had it not been forced by the Navy to use the rubbish engine that was a stopgap in early tests. Guest guest
The US has been pretty free about throwing these engines around over the decades. They might not be the most advanced of the kind, but they aren't the primitive ones either. Some countries might also be making variants of their own. I'm not sure if Israel is one of these though. Still, some other nations might be interested in getting a few. Building some, however, is another matter. China probably can because they have tricked US manufacturers sending the most advanced lathes available, ones that can make precious engine parts and such. They might be able to make copies of advanced engines. Now if they use poorer quality materials the engines could fail. Honestly it would be interesting to think if maybe those engines were made to slightly wrong specifications or with poorer materials in key locations to try to get the Chinese or whoever to copy the engines with the flaws. More interesting are the stories coming out that China is actually building parts for some of our most advanced weapons systems. How stupid is that? Not only are we dependent on a nation that sees the US as its main opponent but they Chinese are also selling us cheap knockoffs and not the quality goods. That must mean the Chinese are keeping the good stuff for themselves. Is there a chance that espionage may be involved?
