This is interesting. Perhaps Obama is playing this game because that is what China wants. China considers India its main rival so if it could gain Pakistan as an ally, India would be flanked in any future war by two nuclear powers. I don't doubt that China would be willing to exploit the animosity between the two countries to the fullest, maybe even provoking a war between the two so that once its "tourist road" through the Himalayan Mountains is complete they'd have their own land invasion route. If India and Pakistan nuked each other, that would probably also be just fine with the Chinese.
