Guest guest
The Tomahawk missiles cost between $500,000 and $750,000 and up each. I'm not sure of the rate of production, but a few hundred missiles are going converted to antishipping roles and I recall seeing article about the missiles being in short supply overall. Perhaps there has been some time to stock up since not so many have been used in the last few years. THe US navy has also been cut some more in the last few years. Reagan wanted a 600 ship navy, though that number was probably to scare the Russians into building more ships and breaking their economy rather than a real target. Later this became 300 ships. Today it is in practice below that and shrinking. On top of the that Navy can't build suitable replacement ships at least not ones that don't cost more than a carrier plus its air arm.
