UK winter flu death toll hits 254

Jan 21 2011

A TOTAL of 254 people with flu have died in the UK since September.

The figure is up sharply from last week's 112.

Of 214 cases where information was available, 195 deaths were associated with

the H1N1 swine flu infection.

The Health Protection Agency said that, despite the jump in deaths, rates of flu

in the UK appeared to be declining.

There were 387 calls about flu to Warwickshire's out of hours service last week,

the lowest of the year so far.

There were no cases of flu at the walk-in centre in Stoney Stanton Road,

Coventry.

The HPA added the recording of deaths lags a week or two behind the period of

peak flu activity.
