Funny you should mention this, Suzi. I've actually been wondering if

this isn't what's really up with my friend who has the

ulcer/spleen/whatever problems with his stomach. Of course we're still

working on a way to get to a doctor, but he's been feeling steadily

better, a little bit every day, since last week; now it's just

occasional indigestion (worse at night) and burping, but no swelling,

bloating or pain. If you remember from my original post, he'd been a

smoker for 21 years, and this all started right when he quit (with my

help--we did it together, and it's been a month now, woohoo!) Also, of

course, since his stomach's been upset we've been doing a lot to try to

improve his diet, and just tonight he was telling me that aside from the

indigestion, he felt in better health than he had for years. He hasn't

had an asthma attack in longer than he's gone without one for ten years,

for starters, and his skin and mental clarity have both improved

greatly. So, not to babble but I gotta wonder if that's something to do

with it? We're still trying for the doctor's visit, but cautiously

optimistic now. Thanks for your help before,

-ST

Your welcome Sara... I remember years ago (alot of them) my father quit smoking and had what were like boils all over... the toxins coming out of his body.... so that is another reason I think this is what could be happening... the body is an amazing piece of work and strives to heal itself in however or whatever form it can,

Good going ,

Good for you. I found when I quit that finding something to occupy the

mind takes the mind off of cigarettes. Seemed to help me a lot. You can

do this, you can beat the monkey and get it off your back. We are behind

you and will be your support group if need be. Hang in there you can do it.

Peace be with you .

Woah, good luck! I *hated* that first week -- it got easier for me

after 2 weeks, but that's how long it took me to stop being sick. (I

didn't get as sick as my friend, but then again I didn't smoke for

better than two decades--!) Hang in there--cold turkey is how we did

it--you'll make it! -ST

My "puppy" is making her flyball debut tonight. She was old enough to run at the end of June but we kept having conflicts on tournament weekends. She's very fast too. It'll be fun. It's a new team and most of the dogs are green. We haven't run in almost a year. Could be crazy but I have a good feeling about it. Plus, it's only one day. Saturday and Sunday it's on to my other club's NADAC agility trial. The pup's not old enough to run or ready but my older guy will be making his debut in Open. My flyball team is selling food at the agility trial to raise money too. So the weekend should go by very quickly! Monday another couple and my boyfriend and I are going to an amusement park. Being it's on Labor Day I think we'll spend alot of time hanging out in line. Should be a pretty laid back day.

I've never been a big gum chewer. It gives me headaches. I did buy a bunch of hard candy about a month ago in preparation but I haven't eaten much of it. I'm finding I like to munch on some carrots or grapes instead. Guess I should bring some with this weekend since I'll be surrounded by the bars and brownies we'll be selling. LOL

Next I'll tackle caffeine - for now I let myself have as much as I want - one thing at a time. Then I'll work on my overall diet.

oooo I'm jealous! :)

Yes, keep your mind occupied. Does chewing gum help?

I have never chosen to smoke so I can't say I know how you are feeling, but kicking the "food" habit is bad enough!

Keep it up!

I bet it makes a difference on how long you've smoked too. I smoked for like 12 years and then quit 3 years ago for 2 years when I was first diagnosed with ITP. Life got extremely stressful a little over a year ago and I fell back to smoking again. So I had 2 years off and now only 1 year of smoking. Boy was I crabby the first 2 days though! I hate being crabby. That's a key point where I fail - I hate feeling so yucky so I smoke to feel normal again. But now I'm in they hyper goofy stage so I'm going with it. LOL

I think cold turkey is the way to go. I've used the gum but really it's just like smoking. You're still feeding your body nicotine and extending the withdrawals. I've never done it the proper way though where you start the help at the level you smoke at and then taper off from there.
