The joint statement by foreign aid agencies based in Pyongyang warns food production in North Korea has collapsed because of the cold winter and flooding, with crops of potatoes, wheat and barley all failing. They say more than 4,000 tonnes of cereals and blended food aid is urgently needed, with more than 6 million North Koreans desperately requiring assistance. It is also feared Pyongyang's food distribution system will collapse as early as May.
