This definition also fits my context. Neither " pre-ileus " offered by Roche nor " near-ileus " (which I believe I've seen a couple of times) appears all that " kosher " to me, and subileus doesn't work in English, does it? Praeileus [i know, this looks funny because I don't have an Umlaut in my e-mail program], beginnender, unvollstaendiger Ileus. Dorland's: ileus - obstruction of the intestines, What about " beginning/incomplete obstruction of the intestines " or " early stage of ileus " ? So you are confirming that there is no handy word for this concept in English, right? This is very reassuring because I was worried I might be the only person not to know the appropriate term.
